Da Nang International airport (DIA) (aviation code: DAD) is the third largest airport in Vietnam, after Noi Bai airport and Tan Son Nhat airport. It is located in Duy Tan, Hoa Thuan Tay, Hai Chau, Danang, just 3km to the city centre. There are more than 14 direct international flights arriving in Da Nang airport, including Hong Kong – Danang, Siem Reap – Da Nang – Narita – Danang, Kuala Lumpur – Danang, Macao – Danang, Beijing – Danang, etc. Reconstructed in 2007 with a new terminal building, it offers a wide range of modern facilities: Currency exchanges, SIM card, mobile charging, internet connection, gift shop, lounges. The airport has 2 terminals, T1 domestic airport and T2 international airport.

2. Da Nang airport’s services and amenities

2.1. Wi-Fi (free)

Wi-Fi in Da Nang airport is free to access. Connect to “Maltaport Wi-fi” and open your browser to log in, fill in the compulsory information then your device will be connected. Sometimes the airport Wi-Fi is weak however the nearby café and restaurant also provide Wi-Fi

2.2. Money exchange and ATMs

Money exchange counters are located in the public halls and arrival halls of both terminals. The exchange rate is quite good. You can refer to these banks: Vietinbank, Vietcombank, VPbank, Citibank, Sacombank, Techcombank, etc. To check the exchange rate of Vietcombank click here. ATMs can be found near the exit of the arrival hall. The international terminal provides BIDV, Agribank and Vietin Bank ATMs.

2.3. SIM cards

Buying a Vietnamese SIM cards at the airport is quite easy. You need to show your passport ID to register. An accredited vendor will always help you to register your SIM to assure that you legally use that number to call and access 3G. The SIM card kiosk  is located near the currency exchange on the ground floor of both terminals. It is not much different between SIM packages of mobile provider (Viettel, Vinaphone, Mobiphone and Vietnamobile). A common 30 day package of phone call and 3G cost you from VND 100,000 (USD 4) – VND 300,000 (USD 13).

2.4. Food and beverages

Food and beverage options in Da Nang airport are diverse, but you will of course pay the premium airport price. You can find good local food stalls here selling banh mi, pho, ca phe sua or fast food.

2.5. Shopping

Besides local gift shops where you can pick up handicrafts, local teas and coffee, you can purchase lots of duty-free goods from Lotte stores and Alux stores like perfumes, cigars, sweets, cosmetics and spirits.

2.6. Airport lounges

Da Nang airport offers Orchid Lounge and Vietnam Airlines Lounges. Having a lounge membership allows you to access these lounges complimentary. Otherwise, they can issue a single visit pass, which can be purchased directly at the entrance.

2.7. Other services

Apart from the mentioned services, Da Nang airport offers an information desk, luggage packaging, mobile charging, medical services, smoking room (2nd floor), Bamboo Spa (2nd floor). There is no shower or rest zone in the Da Nang airport. It just takes few minutes to take a taxi to a nearby hotel.

3. Transportation to Da Nang City and Hoi An ancient town

From Da Nang international airport, you can transfer to Da Nang city and Hoi An city by various means of transportation. It is just 3 km from the airport to the tourist area in Da Nang.

You can opt for one of these transportation options, which are in the order of convenience and comfort.

3.1. Private car

Booking a private car from the airport is not only the most comfortable way but also much cheaper if you travel with a group. A private car is available to book from your hotel, local travel agency or transportation agents. More and more travellers arrange a private car pickup as it is remarkably affordable in Vietnam. You will be greeted by your private driver who will help you to manage your luggage and then drive you to your hotel. You should provide your exact address to know the final price in advance. Normally the car drops you off at the area of Hai Chau district, area of Ngu Hanh Son district in Da Nang, area of Hoi An ancient town in Hoi An. The price is almost the same for addresses in the same area. A private car will cost you anywhere from USD 14 – 43 depending on the car size.  

3.2. Taxi

Airport taxis stop outside the arrival hall of both terminals. The driver calculates the fare by meter or gives a fixed price for the distance. Usually the price goes from USD 16 for a 4-seater car for dropping off in Da Nang and double that for dropping off in Hoi An. 3.3. Grab taxi

Grab, like Uber, is a car booking platform across Asia. It allows users to book a car, taxi or motorbike via an application. Connecting with airport free Wi-Fi you can download the Grab application. Choose the starting point and ending point and you immediately see the final price. The price might go up during rush hour. You can confirm the route and price to find a nearby driver. Although the application is run in English, the drivers rarely speak English. Hence, you need to take note of the car plate number plate and type of car. The price fluctuates between USD 5 – 42 depending on the distance and car.

3.4. Bus

There are some bus routes which cross from Da Nang city and Hoi An town, however, you have to walk a distance to Nguyen Huu Tho street.

    Frequency: 15 – 20 minutes
    Route: Centre bus station – Ton Duc Thang – Dien Bien Phu – Le Duan – Trung Nu Vuong – Nguyen Van Troi bridge – Ngu Hanh Son – Hoi An bus station

    Fare: VND 5,000/person
    Frequency: 15 – 20 minutes
