Da Nang is a coastal city located in central Vietnam, and it is the fourth-largest city in the country, just behind Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi Capita, Hai Phong City in aspects of urbanisation and socio-economic development. Geographical location
Situated on the coast of the East Sea, near the mouth of the Han River, Da Nang is one of the port cities with a strategic location in Central Vietnam. Its distance to the capital Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is almost equal. Da Nang is also the centre of three world cultural heritages: Hue Ancient Capital, Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Sanctuary. History
Da Nang’s rich history dates back to ancient times when the Cham-pa Empire controlled much of present-day central and southern Vietnam. Then in the 16th century, Da Nang became an important port for the Vietnamese Nguyen Lords. During the French colonial period in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Da Nang was known as Tourane and was an important centre of trade and commerce. The French built several notable buildings in the city, including the Da Nang Cathedral and the Museum of Cham Sculpture. During the War, Da Nang was heavily bombed, causing significant damage to buildings and infrastructure. After the war, it underwent significant reconstruction, modernization and has incredibly become a major economic hub and tourist destination.
