1. Introduction about Son Tra Peninsula

Son Tra Peninsula belongs to Tho Quang ward, Son Tra district, Danang City. In the past, this was a floating island formed by 3 mountains. Over time, seawater brought alluvial deposits to form a strip of land connecting the island and the mainland and forming the Son Tra peninsula. This place has 3 sides facing the sea, 1 side facing the urban area and is only about 10km from the city center.

The Fairy Chess Board

The Fairy Chess Board is located at an altitude of 700m from the foot of the peninsula. This is the perfect spot for visitors to see the full view of Da Nang city, the iconic Da Nang bridges, the sea, and the sky. This mountain peak is associated with the legend of two Eastern gods playing chess together. The nearby beach is also named the Falling Fairy.

Son Tra Peninsula is famous for its rich flora. That's why this place is called the "priceless green area" of Da Nang. Referring to Son Tra flora, there is an extremely famous banyan tree. Up to now, this banyan tree was discovered about 800 years ago. It has a trunk circumference of about 10m, with 26 secondary roots and a huge canopy of leaves that makes it a masterpiece of nature.

Son Tra Lighthouse

This lighthouse is located at an altitude of 223m above sea level. It was built by France in the 1950s. Up to now, Son Tra lighthouse is considered one of the oldest and most beautiful lighthouses in Vietnam. 

Ghenh Bang

Ghenh Bang is a beautiful place but not many tourists know about it. The reason is that the way to Ghenh Bang is not as easy as getting to other locations. Visitors will have to go on motorbikes to conquer the steep and overgrown forest road about 1km. But the reward for visitors is the wild, incredibly majestic scenery of the sea and sky, white waves, and large and small rocks with different shapes and colors.

Linh Ung Pagoda

As one of the famous pagodas of Da Nang, Linh Ung Pagoda is located at an altitude of 693m above sea level on Son Tra peninsula. This is where the 67m high statue of Avalokiteshvara Buddha is located - currently holding the highest record in Vietnam. 

This pagoda is located near Bai But, so it is also called Linh Ung Bai But Pagoda or Linh Ung Pagoda in Son Tra, different from Linh Ung Pagoda in Ngu Hanh Son or Linh Ung Ba Na Hills.

The mission of this radar station is to control the entire airspace of the Gulf of Tonkin, Laos, and Cambodia. The station is located at an altitude of 621m above sea level. Standing from here, visitors can also enjoy a panoramic view of the vast ocean. The station also has a helipad, which is also a mysterious destination for tourists.

3. Best Things to Do in Son Tra

Go to the beach

The first thing to do in Son Tra is go to the beach as this place has numerous Da Nang's beautiful beaches:

  • Bai But is located in the middle of a strait, and has a harmonious combination of the sea and forests. Here, visitors can rent huts, camp, hold beach parties, windsurf, skydive, dive to see coral...

  • Tien Sa Beach is associated with the legend of fairies descending to Earth and has a rare quiet, pristine space.

  • Black Rocks Beach with gentle waves, clear water all year round, and large and small black rocks stacked on top of each other.

  • Bai Nam (or Bai Nom) is one of the most beautiful beaches of Son Tra peninsula with a beautiful coral beach. Thus, it is a coral diving spot that tourists should not miss.

  • Coming to Bai Bac around October - November of the lunar calendar, you will admire the sight of immense seaweed clinging to the rocks here.
