Muong Than is one of the four largest and flattest fields in the Northwest, and one of the most beautiful rice fields in Vietnam, beside the famous rice fields of Mu Cang Chai, Pu Luong, Hoang Su Phi, Bac Son, and Mai Chau. Here are the photos of the magnificent rice fields in Muong Than, Lai Chau!
The Most Peaceful Rice Field Landscape
Muong Than has a rice field landscape so beautiful that it is compared to a fairyland. Occasionally, the wind rushes into the valley to create a rather special sub-climate zone on the third most beautiful field in the northwest. Therefore, Than Uyen wind is also the "specialty" of this valley. The dry wind blows hard, circling the valley.
When you come to the northwest in the mature rice season, you will hear local people tell stories about farming to praise Muong Than, one of the four most famous large rice granaries in the northwest region. Muong Than rice fields cover a total area of about 2,000 hectares and is also known as "Fairy Field." Muong Than's beauty changes by season, for instance, in the water season, the fields are bathed in the green color of rice shoots while in the ripe rice season, Muong Than is tinged with a beautiful golden color like a green and yellow carpet that stretches to the horizon.
Muong Than's rice fields have two seasons of rice cultivation per year. Under the warm sunshine, cool breezes bring the delicate aroma of rice to the enchanting space of ethnic villages, creating a poetic and fresh atmosphere separating the land from the dusty and noisy city.
The peaceful landscape of Muong Thanh is also shown through extremely familiar images that visitors to the northern mountainous region of Vietnam will see like the images of buffalo herds leisurely grazing, children cutting grass, or kites flying in the clear blue sky.
The Rustic Food Of Muong Than
From the fragrant rice grown on their land, Muong Thanh people create unique rustic cuisine. There are boiled rice, sticky rice, bamboo tube steamed rice, etc served along with savory dishes.
One of the most famous Muong Than dishes is made from freshwater stream fish - a substantial part of the cuisine of the Thai ethnic group in this land which contributes greatly to the cuisine of Lai Chau.
The famous fermented fish is the spirit of the Thai's daily meal. The local fish, after being cleaned, is marinated with spices such as ginger, salt, chili, garlic, rice wine, and grilled rice flour. Then, it is placed in a bamboo tube and left to ferment for up to two weeks. When cooking, the fermented fish is grilled on a wooden fire. This dish will be great if served with steamed fragrant sticky rice.
Coming to the verdant rice fields of Muong Than, not only can you admire the fantastic scenery, but you are also able to enjoy the rustic dishes of the popular and simple natives. It can be said that the scenery and delicious dishes of Muong Than continue to retain guests from afar.
