The Charm of Hoang Su Phi's People and Terraced Field

Anyone who has ever visited Hoang Su Phi district considers its beauty to be a pristine paradise alike. Hoang Su Phi has been for a long time a favourite destination for photographers. Two photographers Viet Bac and Le Tho together wandered around the streets of Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang, Vietnam and captured the wonderful moments.

Viet Bac, an amateur photographer born in 1982, currently resides and works in Hoang Su Phi, while Le Tho, born in 1976, is a specialist at the Department of Foreign Affairs. Though working in different fields, they have the same passion for photography. Both of them have strolled the distant and risky pathways to capture the scenic moments of the border district in the western area of Ha Giang.

These are the works at the exhibition titled Dat Va Nguoi Hoang Su Phi (Land and people in Hoang Su Phi) by the two amateur photographers at the Cultural Center of Hoang Su Phi district (Ha Giang).

Rung Vang (The Golden Forest)

Hoang Su Phi looks imaginative, wild but also rustic and full of emotion through their photos. The works of the two photographers give the viewer a sense of the grandeur and lyricism of the rice terraces flowing from one mountain to another, like a staircase connecting the earth and the sky.

Vu Dieu Tren Dong (Dancing in the field)

Two photographers travel every season to take unique pictures of the beautiful rice terraces in Hoang Su Phi. During the rainy season, visitors will be astonished by the endless fields filled with water, looking like infinite natural mirrors. In the harvest season, the yellow steps of rice fields resemble waves coming down the mountains, with houses scattered in the smoke coming from thatched roofs.

After a long day of work, local people gather to enjoy a cup of Shan Tuyet tea that's been ageing for many years. The tea has a delightful mix of sweet and bitter flavours that make people feel happy and relaxed, making them forget about their tiredness and worries. Looking at their photos, you'd think they're in paradise, surrounded by dreamy clouds atop Chieu Lau Thi.

Every picture tells a tale of life among the Hmong, Dao, Tay, and Nung ethnic groups, revealing their simplicity, kindness, and happiness despite difficult life. Vibrant traditional attire, joyful children, and picturesque landscapes like terraced rice fields and bustling markets come alive in these photos. These images captivate and encourage those unfamiliar with Hoang Su Phi to come and explore its natural beauty by their naked eyes.

The land of Hoang Su Phi (Ha Giang) has a distinct beauty. Visiting Ha Giang province, visitors not only have chance to learn about new ethnic culture but also can't help but be surprised to see the captivating golden terraced fields with their own eyes.
