Na Thac, Khuoi My, & Lung Vai are three highland villages in Phuong Do hamlet. They are about 10 km from Ha Giang City. The best time to visit these three highland villages is on two occasions: the water-pouring season (May-June) and the season of the golden rice fields (August-October).
The seasonal beauty of Na Thac, Khuoi My, and Lung Vai villages
Na Thac, Khuoi My, and Lung Vai villages have around 90 hectares of terraced fields. The highland people created these fields with many years of effort. When spring comes, the villagers build dams and embankments, weed the grass, and conduct water. The water pours from one field to another, rolling in the color of alluvium as a mirror reflecting the sky, which makes it look like a magnificent painting. The overlapping of plots makes the whole scene look like the stairs to heaven.
The water-pouring season starts from May to June. During this season, people pour water into their terraced fields to prepare for the new planting season. Due to their farming being dependent on nature, the water-pouring season is the most important of the year.
The fields then turn golden in mid-October, and suddenly, the scenery becomes a sunny coat, making them a favorite spot for travel and photography. From afar, the fields look like golden silk trips softly curling around the green hills, looming under the misty clouds. The Autumn sunlight also embellishes the smile of those Dzao girls and their traditional native costumes. The smell of ripe rice mingling with the fresh air of the jungle secretly steals the hearts of the travelers.
Along with the beauty of the terraced fields, the white of Plum flowers, and the pink of Peach flowers, the rapeseed flower field in Na Thac would be your place of choice if you want to get overwhelmed by its shiny yellow.
The people of Dzao
Also, it would be a shame not to look at the Dzao’s traditional architecture. They built stilt houses with palm roofs leaning against the Tay Con Linh mountain range. Just like wine, these houses get better with age.
In addition, by choosing the tourist route of the three highland villages of Na Thac, Khuoi My, and Lung Vai, you can enjoy not only a scenic journey through grand pass routes with vast terraced plots and tea forests but also a very cultural one. You will get a chance to be part of the Dzao’s unique culture, discover their living, join their cultural and religious activities, and try their wonderful cuisine. They also have homestays with the best views, which is suitable for those who love watching the sunrise or the mountainous night.
With the care of the local authorities, the tourist route of the three highland villages of Na Thac, Khuoi My, and Lung Vai will become Ha Giang's big tourism potential in the following years.
