Located in the middle of the photography paradise of O Quy Ho Pass (one of the great four passes in the north of Vietnam) and surrounded by Muong Than rice fields, Sin Suoi Ho Village of the Mong people is considered an interesting destination with the title "green tourist village in the land of Lai Chau".
A Brief Introduction
Sin Suoi Ho village is located in Sin Suoi Ho commune, Phong Tho district, about 30 km from Lai Chau city. The village is located at an altitude of nearly 1,500 m above sea level, at the foot of Son Bac May mountain.
In 2015, Sin Suoi Ho was recognized as a community tourism village and according to data from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the village is also considered as one of the prominent destinations of Lai Chau province.
On average, in the two years after COVID-19, the village welcomed about 30,000 visitors, including visitors from 15 countries such as the US, Australia, Canada, etc.
Notes: Unlike many tourist areas where children stand to ask for money or take pictures for money, visitors are asked not to give money, even candy to children. People believe that over time it spoils children and fails to maintain cultural traditions.
What does Sin Suoi Ho Village have?
On February 5, 2023, at the International Tourism Fair forum in Yogyakarta city (Indonesia), Sin Suoi Ho village was honored as the most attractive community tourism destination in ASEAN in 2022 thanks to its following assets:
People and the “green” environment
The population living in Sin Suoi Ho Village is mainly of the Mong or H'Mong ethnic group. This is one of the quite familiar ethnic groups in tourist destinations in northern Vietnam such as Ha Giang and Sapa. The Mong people are famous for their unique traditions expressed through festivals such as Tet, traditional crafts such as brocade weaving and simple villages.
In the Sin Suoi Ho village, they have also worked together to build a culture that is both cute and very "green - clean - beautiful" like not drinking alcohol, smoking, gambling, and taking drugs. There are many signposts and garbage collection points in the village, so the roads here are also very clean, with many trees and flowers, making visitors feel like they are lost in a flower garden.
Stunning natural scenery
Surrounding the village are majestic mountains and terraced fields. When visiting this place, visitors can climb peaks such as Bach Moc Luong Tu or Ta Lien, hunt clouds, hunt golden rice season, go trekking, and visit a 300-year-old tree.
Trai Tim waterfall
Trai Tim Waterfall is located entirely in the old forest of Sin Suoi Ho commune, covered on all four sides by rocky mountains.
The road to the waterfall has many old trees and vines and the people in the village have arranged rocks to make it easier for visitors to walk. The distance from the village to the waterfall is about 800 m, there are two walking paths. Note that the high road is easier to go than the lower road.
Fun activities
The first interesting activity is probably to visit the weekly market that opens every Saturday morning. Along both sides of the road to the village and the market, there are thousands of Cymbidium orchids, peach blossoms, roses, and hawthorn flowers.
Furthermore, there are also restaurants with delicious Lai Chau foods and people here also provide tour guides services, performing arts, and sell brocade and Mong ethnic souvenirs.
Homestays close to nature
Taking advantage of the fresh, cool climate and unique cultural identity, the locals strongly develop community tourism. In Sin Suoi Ho, there are currently more than 20 homestay households.
Each homestay has a welcome gate and a wooden sign with words plaited on rope or rattan with phone number, services, and hostname, in an environmentally friendly way.
A Cafe floating among the clouds
Sin Suoi Ho village also has a scenic cafe, with the owner being a guy from the south of Vietnam who came to the village to travel and fell in love with an ethnic girl here. He stayed to live and opened this cafe.
On cloudy and foggy mornings, the cafe seems to be floating among the clouds of the Northwest mountains.
Sin Suoi Ho village, besides many other famous tourist villages in Vietnam such as Kim Bong Carpentry Village, Sa Dec Flower Village, Da Bac Sung Village, Bat Trang Ceramic Village, Nam Hong Village, etc., has created one of the indispensable tourist beauties of Vietnam, besides the beauty of nature or the uniqueness of the cuisine.
These villages, represented by Sin Suoi Ho in this article, are cultural tourist destinations that every tourist should visit at least once.
