How to get from Hanoi to Phong Nha?

Not many places in Vietnam where there are many beautiful landscapes and diverse terrains like Quang Binh.
Quang Binh is not only famous for its magnificent caves in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park but also has pristine beaches such as Nhat Le Beach, Da Nhay Beach, Bao Ninh Beach ... which have a system of rivers and streams combined with limestone mountains to create a strange emerald green color in Nuoc Mooc stream or Chay River. Each location gives you a very different experience. Phong Nha is about 500km from Hanoi. Are you wondering if it is reasonable and economical to come here by train, by plane or by car? 1/ Hanoi to Phong Nha by bus

There are some sleeper buses that have stops in Phong Nha. This is the most convenient vehicle and save the cost for transit from Dong Hoi city to Phong Nha town.( if travel by flight or train). Passenger could book tickets at bus’s office in Hanoi:

• Price: 300.000 – 500.000 VND/pax
• Travel time: 10 hours
• Departure time: 18.30 – 21.15. Arrive in Phong Nha at 4 – 5 AM
• Advantages: low cost, easy to book, suitable for young passengers.
• Disadvantages: take taxi between home, hotel and bus’s companies, bus stop.
  In cases of the broken bus, tourists may miss their travel schedule.

2/ Hanoi to Phong Nha by airplane

Every day, there are 2-3 round trip flights from Hanoi to Phong Nha. Passenger should check on the website of Vietnam airlines and Bamboo airways in advance to make sure to book the flight as plan. If not, we recommend taking train or bus for your travel plan.
For travelling by airplane, passengers also need to plan for a transfer to Phong Nha from Dong Hoi airport.

• Flight time: 55 minutes
• Departure time: 12.20, 16.55 ( It may be changed following the season or airlines’ route)
• Departure terminal: Noi Bai international airport>
• Arrival terminal: Dong Hoi airport
• Advantages: fast, safe and save time, health for the next activities in the plan.
• Disadvantages: Airport is far from city center. Check in time and transfer time between hotel and airport are too long.
  If the flight is delayed, it will affect your travel plan.

3/ Hanoi to Phong Nha by train

The train will run through most of the coastal provinces in Vietnam and, travelling by train is a great experience. If you choose a night train, book a soft sleeper ( 4 beds in 1 cabin) for the comfortable trip. The train will arrive in Dong Hoi railway station and you still need a transfer from Dong Hoi city to Phong Nha town. Night trail is a good choice for those who save 1 night on train and that will not miss any daily activities. For foreign tourists, the best ones are SE3 at 19.30 and SE1 at 22.15.

• Ticket price: 500.000 – 1.000.000 VND/pax depending on seat or sleeper ticket
• Travel time: 10 hours
• Departure time: 4 trains/day. Earliest one is at 6.00 AM and latest one is at 22.15
• Departure at: Hanoi Railway station – 120 Le Duan str, Hanoi
• Arrival at: Dong Hoi Railway station – Sub regional 4, Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh
• Advantages: Save the cost, Could enjoy the beautiful landscapes on the way.
• Disadvantages: Noisy, shaking, so it will be hard to sleep and may be tired next day.

4/ Hanoi to Phong Nha by private car

With the journey of 500km from Hanoi to Dong Hoi, tourists will combine to visit other destinations in Ninh Binh, Quang Binh, love to enjoy the beautiful landscapes or travel with many people in the family. So the private car ( may be minivan) would be the best option.
