1. Overview

Thung Nham Bird Park is an eco-tourism area, situated approximately 12 km east of Ninh Binh city center, within the core area of the Trang An landscape complex and adjacent to the renowned tourist area of Tam Coc - Bich Dong. Thung Nham is also the largest natural bird park in northern Vietnam. The Bird Garden within the Thung Nham eco-tourism area is home to a variety of bird species. Thung Nham Bird Park houses over 40 species and 50,000 different birds, including teal, flamingos, and warblers, storks, herons, egrets, fire warblers. Even the sight of birds flying in the blue sky, though a common occurrence, will certainly leave a lasting impression on visitors.

The entire tourist area covers a total area of over 300 hectares, with 334.2 hectares being submerged forests. It is home to 109 plant species and 150 animal species. Thung Nham eco-tourism area offers a complete range of attractive ecotourism activities, making it a worthy destination for weekend getaways or short vacations.

2. What to see at Thung Nham bird park

At Thung Nham Bird Park, you can explore the wildlife of nearly 40 species of birds, including approximately 50,000 birds such as herons, egrets, swallows, kingfishers, and flame-backed woodpeckers, as well as precious species like cranes and phoenixes. Visitors to this place will be amazed by the graceful flight of these birds. Especially during sunset, when the birds return, you will witness the enchanting and pristine beauty that is rarely found elsewhere. Sitting in a boat on the calm water, listening to the sounds and observing flocks of white storks and various other birds, will provide a remarkable experience.

Vai Gioi Cave

In the heart of Vai Gioi Cave, there are three levels covering an area of approximately 5000m², adorned with thousands of sparkling and mysterious stone blocks.

To reach Vai Gioi Cave, visitors must climb over 400 stone steps. The cave's name originates from ancient times when it was chosen as a place for national prayers, where people sought peace and harmony in favorable weather conditions. This is one of the most beautiful caves that tourists should visit when exploring Thung Nham Bird Park.

But Cave

Hang But is the largest cave in the ecological tourist area of Thung Nham, with a length of about 500m. Inside the cave, there are stalactites resembling an image of an old man sitting next to a river, hence the name "But Cave." Visitors here will be provided with flashlights to admire the interior stalactites.

Tien Ca Cave

Tien Ca Cave stretches for about 1200m, winding through the limestone mountain, creating a secluded and enchanting cave. The widest part of Tien Ca Cave is only about 30m, and the highest point reaches around 40m, displaying incredibly unique architecture. The cave knows how to stimulate the curiosity of visitors as they immerse themselves deep in the lush green bamboo thickets. To reach the entrance of the cave, you have to climb about 200 stone steps hidden beneath the ancient bamboo groves of Ninh Binh.

Thung Nham Flower Valley

Thung Nham Flower Valley, with an area of over 800m², features two central flower hills and expansive flower gardens around them. There are about 30 different flower varieties planted here, arranged according to the seasons throughout the year. Regardless of spring, summer, autumn, or winter, the flower island always blooms in vibrant colors. That's why this place is also known as the "paradise of flowers" or the "four-season flower garden." 

The flower valley in the Thung Nham ecological tourist area gathers a wide range of foliage and bird species. Seasonal flowers create a poetic ambiance, making it an ideal spot for check-ins and photography that tourists shouldn't miss.

Fruit Garden

The fruit garden within the Thung Nham ecological tourist area covers an area of up to 80,000m² and is filled with various fruit trees such as oranges, lychees, mangoes, guavas, custard apples, and persimmons. Visitors here can personally pick fruits according to the seasons and experience the work of a real farmer in tending the garden.

3. When and how to get to Thung Nham Bird Park?

Thung Nham Bird Park can be visited throughout the year, but we recommend going during autumn (September to November) for the best experience. During this season, the weather is pleasant with minimal rainfall. The park becomes a beautiful sight as hundreds of birds gather in their nests before sunset or fly around for feeding during the day. The climate during this time is delightful, not yet winter, so it remains cool and sunny. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views, breathe in the fresh air, and engage in various activities within Thung Nham Bird Park.

Reaching Thung Nham Bird Park is relatively convenient, and there are multiple transportation options available based on personal preference. If you are coming from Ninh Binh city, the easiest ways to reach the park are by taxi or motorbike. Taxis can be readily found within the city, and the journey to the park typically takes around 30 minutes.

Alternatively, motorbikes can be rented from various shops in Ninh Binh, providing an excellent opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside. From the city center, head south on the Tran Hung Dao - Truong Han Sieu - Hoa Lu route for approximately 2.5 kilometers, and you will arrive at Thung Nham Bird Park.
