1. About Meo Vac Ha Giang

Meo Vac is one district in northwestern Ha Giang, around 33 km from the center of Dong Van district and some 150 km from Ha Giang city, with an area of 584.73 km² and a population of 82,000. Resembling the Dong Van district region, this area has majestic limestone mountains and an arable land area of around 12,000 ha.

Nothing is better than to feel the fresh air in the north-west and to admire the Nho Que River flowing quietly at the foot of the mountains which lie next to the terraced fields spreading to the horizon. Each season, Meo Vac wears a different color, creating the appeal of this small district in Ha Giang.

2.1 Meo Vac-Ha Giang's Vast Buckwheat Field

If you're looking for a sea of buckwheat in bloom then Meo Vac Ha Giang is a must-see destination for you. If Na Thac, Khuoi My, and Lung Vai villages in Ha Giang are known for their vast terraced rice fields, then Meo Vac the largest buckwheat field in the northwest, where you can immerse yourself in the blooming season of the buckwheat (from October to the end of the year).

2.2 Ma Pi Leng pass

Ma Pi Leng Pass in Meo Vac Ha Giang is one of the top 4 most interesting passes in the northern region of Vietnam. This pass winds its way through the mountain of the same name, culminating at over 1200 m altitude with 9 curves hugging the imposing cliff and a deep, bottomless abyss beside it.

To get to Ma Pi Leng, you have to take a fairly dangerous road, which is why it's advisable to go during the day, particularly on sunny days, when you can contemplate some magnificent scenery, and be safer. 

2.3 Lo Lo Ethnic Village

The Lo Lo ethnic village is located in Meo Vac district, Ha Giang, and is an ancient ethnic group of the Vietnamese people. Upon visiting the village, you can discover the unique characteristics of this ethnic group, and take part in joint activities with the locals to create a better Vietnam experience with your family or friends.

2.4 Sam Pun border gate

Sam Pun is a border gate located about 30 km from the center of the Meo Vac district. The road leading to the border is magnificent with tight bends that defy backpackers. You have to cross countless mountains and see many layers of clouds to conquer the dreamlike Sam Pun border gate.

From Meo Vac, if you want to get to Sam Pun, you have to go over the Xin Cai pass. After a few dozen zigzag turns (about 10 km), you'll reach the border belt. Follow this road a little further to reach the Sam Pun border post.

2.5 Tu San Canyon

Tu San is one of Southeast Asia's most spectacular canyons. From the Ma Pi Leng pass, you can see the pretty Tu San River basin. Taking a boat trip here is a wonderful experience that you must try. The water is calm and clear, surrounded by majestic mountains and hills, and covered in fresh air. Similar to a fairyland, people who come here are like wanderers who have the opportunity to immerse themselves in wondrous scenery.

2.6 Khau Vai Love Market

Meo Vac Ha Giang is home to many Ha Giang ethnic groups as well as some of the most famous local markets in northern Vietnam. Among them, the Khau Vai love market is considered the best one. This market opens once a year, on March 27 of the lunar calendar. As its name suggests, it's not just a place to exchange goods, but also a place for locals to meet, interact and spread love.

From the afternoon of the 24th lunar month, on the winding roads, people are busy making their way to the market. The whole market wears different colors with the traditional costumes and the colors of the eye-catching stalls. 3 . How do I get to Meo Vac Ha Giang?

To get to Meo Vac from Ha Giang, follow the Quan Ba - Yen Minh - Dong Van - Meo Vac route along National Road 4C. This is a difficult road to travel, so be sure to keep up your speed. In general, we recommend taking a local bus from Hanoi to Meo Vac (approx. 170.00 - 220.000 VND) or renting a private car.
