There are several ways to make the journey, including private car, bus, limousine van and train. Each comes with a different balance of cost, comfort and flexibility. 1. How Far Is Mui Ne from Ho Chi Minh City?
Mui Ne lies on the coast of Lam Dong (formerly Binh Thuan), roughly 200 km east of Ho Chi Minh City. Since the Dau Giay - Phan Thiet Expressway opened, road journeys have become significantly faster, although the exact travel time still depends on where you leave from in Ho Chi Minh City and where you are staying in Mui Ne.
By road, you should generally allow around 3–4 hours for the journey. A direct private transfer can sometimes be quicker, while buses and shared vans may take longer because of passenger pickups, rest stops and multiple drop-offs. Traffic when leaving Ho Chi Minh City, particularly around weekends and holidays, can also add time.
If you travel by train, remember that the railway does not take you directly to your hotel in Mui Ne. You will need to continue by road from Phan Thiet or another nearby station, so the total journey is longer than the train ride shown on your ticket.

Using the expressway, the drive generally takes around 3–4 hours, although traffic and your exact pickup and drop-off points can affect the journey. As a general reference, a 4-seater private car costs around VND 1.400.000 VNĐ–1.700.000 VNĐ (approximately USD 55–65) per vehicle, one way, while a 7-seater usually costs around VND 1.500.000 – 1.900.000 (approximately USD 60–75). Prices vary between providers and may be higher for airport pickups, larger vehicles, public holidays or additional stops.
The main advantage is flexibility. You can choose a departure time that fits your plans, travel with your luggage in the same vehicle and arrange a rest stop along the way if necessary. This can be particularly useful for families, older travellers or anyone arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport and continuing directly towards the coast.
Private transport may initially look expensive compared with buying an individual bus ticket. However, if three or four people are travelling together, it is worth comparing the total cost for the group rather than simply comparing the price per passenger.
Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne by Bus
Travelling by bus is one of the most affordable ways to get from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne. On this route, travellers will mainly find intercity coaches and sleeper buses, including reclining-seat and sleeper-berth services. Fares generally range from VND 150,000–250,000 (USD 6–10), with journey times of around 4–6 hours.
Depending on the operator, buses may depart from a major terminal such as Mien Tay or An Suong Bus Station, or from the company's own office or designated pickup point in Ho Chi Minh City. Always check the departure address shown on your ticket rather than assuming all buses leave from the same station.

For sleeper buses, popular operators include FUTA Bus Lines (Phuong Trang) and Hanh Cafe. You can book directly with the operator or compare routes, departure times and prices through Vexere and 12Go Asia.
Before booking, check the exact pickup point, Mui Ne drop-off point and luggage allowance, as services are not always hotel-to-hotel.
Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne by Limousine
The word “limousine” in Vietnam can be slightly misleading for first-time visitors. It usually refers to an upgraded van or minibus with a smaller number of passengers and larger, more comfortable seats, rather than the long luxury vehicle the word may suggest in Europe, Australia or North America.
Limousine services between Ho Chi Minh City and Mui Ne are widely available, with fares generally around VND 220,000–350,000 (roughly USD 8–14) depending on the operator and service. Journey times are usually around 3–4.5 hours.

Luggage space can also be more limited in smaller vans, so travellers carrying large suitcases should confirm the allowance beforehand.
Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne by Train
Travelling by train is a comfortable alternative if you prefer rail travel to spending several hours on the road. The SPT2 train connects Saigon Railway Station with Phan Thiet, with the journey taking around four hours.
Recent 2026 schedules show departures from Saigon at around 6:45 AM, making this a convenient morning option. Depending on availability, travellers can choose between air-conditioned soft seats and 4-berth air-conditioned sleeper cabins. Fares vary by date and seat type, with soft seats generally being the most affordable option. Recent bookings show soft-seat fares of roughly VND 250,000–330,000, while 4-berth sleepers typically cost more.
There is no railway station in Mui Ne itself. After arriving at Phan Thiet Railway Station, you will need to continue by taxi or private transfer for roughly 20–25 km to the main Mui Ne resort area.
Train schedules, seat availability and fares can change, so check the latest departure times and book your ticket directly on the official Vietnam Railways website (DSVN) before travelling.
Which Option Should You Choose?
The best way to travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne depends on your budget, the level of comfort you prefer and how much flexibility you want during the journey.
- Private Car: Best for comfort and convenience, especially for families or groups.
- Bus: Most budget-friendly option. Choosing reputable companies helps ensure a smooth trip.

3. When Should You Leave Ho Chi Minh City?

An afternoon departure is possible if you want to spend the morning sightseeing in Ho Chi Minh City. However, depending on traffic and your chosen service, you may not reach Mui Ne until the evening. This is worth considering if you are unfamiliar with the area or have dinner or activities planned on arrival.
Weekends and Vietnamese public holidays require a little more flexibility. Traffic leaving Ho Chi Minh City can be heavier, while popular buses, limousine vans and trains may fill earlier than usual.
If you are taking a private transfer, there is little benefit in departing extremely early simply to reach Mui Ne before your room is available. Planning your departure around your expected hotel check-in time can make the day more relaxed.
4. Practical Tips for the Journey to Mui Ne
A little preparation can make this relatively simple journey even easier.
Before booking a bus or limousine, check the exact address of both the pickup and drop-off points. Mui Ne stretches along a considerable section of coastline, so being dropped somewhere “in Mui Ne” does not necessarily mean you will be within walking distance of your hotel.
Keep the name and address of your accommodation saved on your phone, preferably together with its location on Google Maps. This makes it easier to show a driver where you are staying if necessary.
If you are travelling with large suitcases, check the luggage allowance when booking a limousine van. Smaller vehicles naturally have less storage space than full-size coaches.
Travellers arriving at Tan Son Nhat International Airport and continuing to Mui Ne on the same day should leave enough time between their flight and onward transport. Immigration, baggage collection and Ho Chi Minh City traffic can all make a tightly scheduled connection stressful. A private transfer can be particularly convenient in this situation because pickup can be arranged directly from the airport.
For train journeys, arrange or research your onward transfer from the station before departure. And whichever transport you choose, avoid scheduling an important tour or activity immediately after your expected arrival in Mui Ne. Road conditions and traffic can always add unexpected time.
5. How to Include Mui Ne in Your Vietnam Itinerary
Mui Ne works particularly well as a coastal break after several busy days in Ho Chi Minh City. While it is possible to visit briefly, two nights gives most travellers a more comfortable amount of time to explore without spending almost as much time travelling as they do at the destination.
With 2 or 3 nights, you can combine time by the sea with some of the area's distinctive landscapes. The White Sand Dunes and Red Sand Dunes are the best-known sights, while the fishing harbour, Fairy Stream and local coastal communities reveal a different side of Lam Dong Province.
Mui Ne can also form part of a longer journey rather than requiring a return directly to Ho Chi Minh City. Depending on your wider route, you might travel:
