Tien Giang is a province with strengths in garden eco-tourism in the Mekong Delta region. Among them, Thoi Son Island, with its typical ecosystem of the Western River region, is a Tien Giang tourist destination not to be missed.

1. A Brief Introduction
Thoi Son island, also known as Con Lan, located in Thoi Hoa hamlet, Thoi Son commune, My Tho city, Tien Giang province, is considered the precious gem of the Tien River. Covering the entire area is an immense green color, with an intricate system of ditches and canals, fertile land, and luxuriant fruit trees in all four seasons, making it an ideal tourist destination in the Mekong Delta.
Thoi Son Island is the largest of the four dunes on this section of the river, with an area of about 1,200 hectares, and is considered the most harmonious of the Four Sacred Animals (Dragon - Qilin - Turtle - Phoenix). Although located on the same river, Thoi Son Island and Tan Long (Dragon) Island belong to My Tho City, Tien Giang Province while Quy (Turtle) and Phung (Phoenix) Islands belong to Ben Tre Province.
Thoi Son Island is also the land associated with the spring event of 1785, the cloth-shirted hero Nguyen Hue achieved a glorious victory, destroying 50,000 Siamese invaders. During the resistance war against the imperialists, Thoi Son Island marked the victories of the people in the Western region of Vietnam.
2. Things To Discover in Thoi Son Island
2.1 Fruits and Snacks
Previously, the locals mainly lived on fishing and aquaculture, along with growing fruit trees in rotation, producing many delicious fruits such as longan, sapoke, orange, tangerine, grapefruit, durian, bananas, jackfruit, mango... Later, they developed beekeeping for honey, some households also made puff cakes, rice paper, coconut candy, jam, and handicraft items to serve tourism.
Tourists will enjoy picking ripe fruit from the tree themselves, then tasting the flavorful longan honey tea, and chatting with the people of Thoi Son Island.
2.2 Ancient Houses
Thoi Son Island also has an area of ancient houses with typical Southern Vietnam architecture: three rooms and two wings, yin-yang tiled roofs, and columns made of precious wood. Inside the house, the decoration is also in the ancient style with a sparkling mother-of-pearl altar box, a record-breaking rosary, and a pair of gilded Van couplets. In front of the house, there is a meticulously cared-for ornamental garden, surrounded by a lush green garden.
2.3 Nature Exploration Activities
Traveling to Thoi Son Island, visitors will have the opportunity to sit on dinghies rowed by a pretty village girl and follow the small winding creeks to watch rows of water coconut trees growing close together. On the shore, you will be welcomed by rows of green willows bending over. The nature also provides a fresh air with the scent of alluvium.
After the rowing activity, visitors can go around the island on a bicycle or horse-drawn carriage and then stroll along the countryside paths, and visit orchards and craft villages whose professionals range from making candy, rice paper, winemaking, and beekeeping.
Especially, at Thoi Son Island, tourists also have the opportunity to become real farmers in the typical Southern Vietnam three-piece suit and turban, together excitedly slapping ditches to catch fish. Participate in attractive Southern folk games such as swinging, catching ducks in the pond, cockfighting, fish fighting, boat racing, etc.
2.4 The Cuisine
After all the entertaining activities, visitors will enjoy garden-style dishes at Thoi Son Island such as grilled catfish, steamed snakehead fish, fried giant fish, goby hotpot, etc., while listening to Đờn Ca Tài Tử and lying down on hammocks in the middle of the green orchard.
2.5 Other services
In Thoi Son, people also sell souvenirs and unique products made from coconut. In addition, Thoi Son Island Tien Giang's accommodation services are increasingly developing, now there are homestays and high-class resorts (lodge islands) in the middle of the countryside, with swimming pools, restaurants, karaoke, and jet skis on the river. At night, Thoi Son Island is also very romantic with the clear moon, cool breeze, and vast river, where you can sit on a boat gliding gently on the river, watching the moon rise.
