With spectacular scenery, pristine, with the characteristics of the natural landscape in the mountainous area, Ba Be Lake is recognized as the largest natural freshwater lake on limestone mountains in Vietnam.

About 240 km northeast of Hanoi, Ba Be Lake, in Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province is located in the Ba Be National Park complex surrounded by two arc mountain ranges of Ngan Son and Bac Son.

As the "treasure" of the mountains and forests of the Northeast, Ba Be with a calm lake like a giant mirror imprinted with the silhouettes of rocky mountains and beautiful clouds and sky. The gentle green color is blended from the green complex of the forest surrounding the lake, the limestone mountains, the cloudy sky drifting on the calm water.

This is one of the 20 largest natural freshwater lakes in the world and the largest natural freshwater lake in Vietnam. This place is a suitable place for vacation trips, picnics and an ideal stopover for those who have fun with travelling.

Ba Be Lake is vast with an area of 650 hectares, the average depth is about 20-25 m, stretching over more than 8 km. The locals call Ba Be Slam Pe, which means three lakes. The name comes from the fact that the lake is the convergence of three tributaries of the Pe Lam, Pe Lu and Pe Leng rivers.
Ba Be Lake has received the recognition of "special national monument" located halfway up the limestone mountains with majestic natural scenery.

According to a research, Ba Be Lake was formed on rocky mountains about 10,000 years ago, with a long and complex geological history, diverse soil and rock composition and unique geological structure.

The greatest value of Ba Be Lake is its unique landscape, outstanding value in geomorphology and great value in biodiversity.

In 1995, Ba Be Lake was recognized by the World Freshwater Lakes Conference, held in the US, as one of the 20 special freshwater lakes in the world that need to be protected. At the end of 2004, Ba Be National Park was recognized as an Asean Heritage Park. In 2011, Ba Be Lake continued to be recognized by the Ramsar Convention Secretariat as the 1938 Ramsar zone (wetland of international importance) of the world and the third Ramsar zone of Vietnam.

Ba Be Lake's water is clear, cool all year round, the whole lake is like a watercolor painting, boldly imprinted with mountain silhouettes, full of clouds and sky, looking like a giant mirror reflecting the winding mountain ranges on the water. On the lake surface, there are many beautiful small islands such as Ba Goa island, An Ma island, etc.
