Swimming in the Dang Mo Waterfall
Here is a beautiful waterfall, nestled in the middle of the jungle, in a sumptuous natural setting. A short walk through the thick vegetation gives you access to these waterfalls spread over three levels. It is the ideal place to enjoy a refreshing swim and to relax after the road trip from Hanoi. Community tourism in Bac Son
Faced with the growing attraction of tourists, many of them Vietnamese, for the beauty of the landscapes of the Bac Son valley, a community-based tourism has emerged in the village of Quynh Son, drowned in the ocean of rice fields. Some families, mainly from the Tay ethnic group, welcome you in their beautiful traditional wooden houses on stilts. Comfort is simple but correct and conviviality is a must with this ethnic group renowned for its hospitality. The dinner with the family will be for you an excellent opportunity to know the customs and habits of the Tay ethnic group.
Meet the Tay Ethnic Group
With approximately 1.5 million people, the Tay are the second largest ethnic group after the Viet. Having arrived from China centuries ago, the Tay have settled in the fertile plains at the foot of the mountains where they grow rice, but also vegetables and livestock. The Tay live in hamlets, such as Quynh Son, and live in large wooden houses on stilts. The Tay's traditional dress is sober compared to other ethnic groups. Both men and women wear indigo-coloured cotton outfits and only a silk belt brings a touch of colour to the women. The Tay practice ancestor worship and their daily life is quite codified. You will discover the specific rites of the Tay by spending the night in their village.
Best season: To enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Bac Son, we advise you to go there during the rice season. From March to the beginning of October. The most beautiful colours are during the rice harvest. There are two rice harvests a year in the Bac Son valley: one at the end of May and the other at the end of September/early October. From mid-October to March the rice fields are fallow and the spectacle is much less grandiose.
