8:00: The discovery of the city begins with a visit to the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum. This elegant building combines traditional Lao architecture with French colonial influences and houses precious objects once belonging to the royal family.
The tour continues with Wat Sene, one of the oldest temples in Luang Prabang, known for its striking golden façade and intricately carved decorations, carefully restored using traditional techniques.
Next, you'll visit Wat Xieng Thong, a masterpiece of Lao religious architecture. This iconic temple captivates visitors with its multi-tiered roofs that nearly reach the ground and colorful mosaics depicting the Tree of Life.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre, a fascinating small museum that showcases Laos’ rich cultural diversity through objects, costumes, photographs, and stories from over 20 ethnic minorities.
Continue with a visit to Wat Visoun, one of the oldest temples in the city, known for its unique watermelon-shaped stupa, a symbol of prosperity.
Next door is Wat Aham, a small and peaceful sanctuary surrounded by frangipani trees, where the protective spirits of Luang Prabang are believed to dwell - a living testament to the region’s animist heritage.
Then, climb Mount Phousi (328 steps) right in the heart of town. From the top, enjoy an exceptional panoramic view over Luang Prabang, the Mekong River, the Nam Khan River, and the surrounding mountains - a magical moment, especially at sunset.
Towards the end of the day, enjoy free time to stroll through the night market, where ethnic minorities display their handmade crafts. The peaceful atmosphere, hanging lanterns, and fragrant spices create an unforgettable setting.

Option: Early in the morning, at dawn, you can witness a unique ritual – the monks’ alms-giving procession. In silent lines, they walk through the streets to receive offerings from the faithful – a deeply spiritual moment.
8:00: Depart for the Luang Prabang peninsula, where the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers meet. Board your private longtail boat for a peaceful two-hour cruise along the Mekong, passing limestone cliffs and forested riverbanks.
Visit the Pak Ou Caves, nestled in a cliffside overlooking the river. These natural sanctuaries house thousands of Buddha statues, left by pilgrims over the centuries. It is a deeply sacred site, revered by the Lao people.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, depart for Kuang Si Waterfalls, located 32 km from the city. These stunning tiered falls feature turquoise pools ideal for swimming. It is one of the most beautiful natural sites in the region.
On the way back, stop at Ban Tha Pan village, inhabited by the Kamu ethnic group, for a moment of exchange about their traditional lifestyle, farming techniques, and handicrafts.
Then, discover Ban Ou village, home to the Lao Loum, the majority ethnic group, known for their hospitality and Buddhist religious practices.

This allows sufficient time for possible flight delays, queues at immigration and customs, and transfers between terminals.
Practical tip: At major airports such as Hanoi (Noi Bai) or Ho Chi Minh City (Tan Son Nhat), domestic and international terminals are not always located in the same building. Please allow ample time and follow the signs upon arrival.
No mandatory vaccinations are required to enter Vietnam.
However, health authorities recommend the following vaccinations, especially for long stays or travel in rural areas:

Do not forget to carry your prescription, preferably in English, to facilitate any checks or medical consultations on site.
The risk of malaria is very low in Vietnam’s main tourist areas, including Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, Mai Chau, Pu Luong, Hue, Hoi An, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and the tourist areas of the Mekong Delta. No malaria prophylaxis is generally recommended for these regions.
However, if you plan to travel to remote rural, forested, or mountainous areas (for example, Muong Te in Lai Chau, certain border or isolated areas of the northern highlands, or deep areas of the Mekong), you should consult a doctor or a travel medicine clinic to assess the need for preventive treatment.
