Join us for a 5-night adventure through the stunning rice terraces of Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang. This fully-guided trip includes 2 nights at Panhou Retreat and 3 nights in local homestays, offering a perfect blend of comfort and authentic experiences. Each day, you'll hike 15-18 km, spending about 5-6 hours walking through beautiful mountain landscapes and lush tea plantations, while immersing yourself in the rich culture of the Red Dao, the “long dress” Dao, and the Hmong in the remote hill tribe villages of Nam Khoa, Nam Son, and Ho Pien.
8:30 AM: Our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Hanoi. We will then head to Thong Nguyen, one of the 23 communes in the Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province. It's approximately a 6-7 hour journey from Hanoi. Upon reaching Thong Nguyen around 3:00 PM, you will check in at your accommodation and take some time to familiarize yourself with the surroundings.
You'll set out from your accommodation with your local guide to explore the nearby mountains, traversing tropical forests and rice terraces. After a three-hour walk, take a break in a Red Dao village for lunch. Out of necessity, they have sculpted the mountainside and utilize its watercourses for rice cultivation. These laborious adjustments enable them to thrive in the heights, providing you with unique landscapes to contemplate.
The cooler climate and abundant fresh water also contribute to the growth of lush tea trees. After a two-hour walk, you'll reach another Red Dao village, allowing you to explore local vegetation, meet with the locals, and observe their daily activities.
Your trek continues after breakfast with a leisurely stroll along the Suoi Nam to the Red Dao village of Khoa Trung. Here, another welcoming family awaits you for lunch.
After this refreshing break, you'll venture to the secluded hamlet of Nam Ai, nestled in the heights of the massif. This is home to the Dao people, recognized for their unique long dress attire.
This morning, continue your trek by walking deeper into Nam Son Valley, crossing over the mountain to reach the 38th kilometer. Following lunch at a Red Dao family's house, make your way to the summit of the mountain towards Ho Pien, passing through tea plantations and bamboo forests. In the late afternoon, you'll reach a Hmong house, where you'll spend the evening with the local family. Enjoy dinner with them and stay overnight.
You can relish the tranquility of the high mountains in the morning and the warmth of the family gathered around the fireplace. After breakfast, continue your stroll through bamboo forests and rice terraces to Yen Son Valley, where the red Yao community resides. A welcoming family in the village will host you for lunch. In the afternoon, you'll follow the river to reach Thong Nguyen by mid-afternoon.
Our driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Thong Nguyen and bring you back to Hanoi. The journey takes approximately 6-7 hours, and you are expected to arrive in Hanoi in the late afternoon.
