Currently, there are two types of buses from Hanoi to Cao Bang: seat bus and sleeping bus. Mostly the buses depart from My Dinh bus station. About 22 buses are starting daily from 5.00 AM to 9.00 PM.

- Advantages: low cost, safe
- Disadvantages: Passengers need to take a taxi from the airport to the bus station and then from the Cao Bang bus station to their hotel or destination. However, there is a risk of missing the travel plan if the bus breaks down. Furthermore, it may be difficult to communicate with the driver to ensure getting off at the right place, which could result in getting lost. Because of these uncertainties, not many tourists choose to take the local bus.

2. Hanoi to Cao Bang by high-quality bus
Recently, high–quality buses have become the favorite means of transportation and are considered VIP buses for the Hanoi to Cao Bang route. Only nine seats in the bus are designed and easily controlled for the most comfortable, like sofas. Other facilities include Wi-Fi, USB ports, and reading lamps, which make the passengers comfortable and feel as if they are at home.

3. Hanoi to Cao Bang by taxi
This transportation is convenient for commuting, but not recommended for mountainous terrain as the vehicle is not equipped for it. Additionally, the driver may not have enough experience driving in such conditions. Moreover, the cost of this mode of transportation is higher compared to private cars and can be significantly more expensive if you choose the wrong taxi. As a result, not many tourists opt for this kind of transfer. The average price for this mode of transportation is around 3,500,000 VND per way.
4. Hanoi to Cao Bang by motorbike
This vehicle greatly interests many young people, especially those seeking adventurous and thrilling experiences. However, riding from Hanoi to Cao Bang requires good preparation, good health and riding skills, and a good motorbike. This route is complicated with steep passes, winding roads, and heavy traffic. It is advisable to carry motorbike repair tools, as there are not many repair shops along the way.

- Travel route: could be 2 ways:
- From Hanoi to National Road 3 – Thai Nguyen – Bac Kan: This route is not really good with many narrow bad roads, but it has spectacular views with Giang and Gio passes
- From Hanoi to Lang Son, passing through Cao Bang. The only bad sections are in Na Sam and That Khe. - Travel time: 7 hours
- Advantages: Proactive in time, low cost, could stop anywhere on the way for photos and enjoy the beautiful landscapes
- Disadvantages: Really tired for 7-8 hour riding. For amateurs, this is dangerous as there are a lot of bends and edges as well as big trucks
